Language Training & Culture Familiarization Program

The Blas F. Ople Development Center (BFO DevCen) was constructed and inaugurated on November 24, 2006, designed primarily to strenghten the OWWA's Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) program.
At present, it is focused on the Language Training and Culture Familiarization Course and occupies initially, the whole second floor of the building, while the 3rd floor is being renovated. The ground floor of the building is currently used by the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO).
The training was started in Janaury 2007, however, with the volume of OFW-trainees, OWWA was forced to open the 5th, six and 10th floor of the OWWA Center.
The Language Training and Culture Familiarization Program
The Language Training and Culture Familiarization, a Pre-Departure Program of the Agency is a mandatory requirement for departing OFWs, primarily the Household Service Workers (HSWs), who will work abroad for the first time.
The participants shall receive a Certificate of Attendance after attending the required number of hours for a specific language. On the other hand, experienced OFWs are also welcomed to avail of the training on an optional basis. Upon request, the OFW will be assessed by the instructors and if found proficient in the language and has a substantial knowledge of the culture of the country of destination, they are issued a Certificate of Competency. All the courses are free of charge.
This program has the following objectives:
1. To equip the OFWs with basic conversation skills in the language of the country of their destination which could help build better relationship with the employer and help ensure better job performance
2. To equip the OFWs with working knowledge of the culture of the country of destination to enable them to cope better
At present, there are five (5) courses being offered; namely:
1. Arabic Language and Culture Familiarization for Middle East bound workers – 24 hours:
Monday to Wednesday – 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Thursday to Saturday – 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
2. Cantonese Language and Culture Familiarization for Hongkong – bound Workers – 14 hours:
Monday to Wednesday - 8:00 am to 1:00 pm
Monday to Wednesday - 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Thursday to Saturday - 8:00 am to 1:00 pm
Thursday to Saturday - 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm
3. Mandarin Language and Culture Familiarization for workers bound to Taiwan, Singapore and other Mandarin speaking countries – 14 hours:
Monday to Wednesday - 8:00 am to 1:00 pm
Thursday to Saturday - 8:00 pm to 1:00 pm
4. Hebrew Language and Culture Familiarization for workers bound to Israel – 24 hours:
Monday to Wednesday - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
5. English Language and Culture Familiarization for workers bound to English speaking countries – 16 hours:
For Training:
Monday to Tuesday - 8:00 pm to 5:00 pm
For Culture Familiarization for Specific Country:
Wednesday to Friday - 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Note: The participants will be required to complete the number of Training Hours in three (3) consecutive days.

ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Submit the following documents at the Registration Counter:
a. Duly accomplished OFW Enrollment Slip
b. Verified Employment Contract or Valid Visa
c. 2 pieces 1x1 ID pictures
