OWWA Provides Assistance to beneficiaries of Victims of Dubai Road Accident

Last 13 July 2008, nine employees of the Retazza Coffee Shop in Dubai, UAE, figured in a vehicular accident resulting in the death of five (5) persons including three Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

According to the report of Welfare Officer Marilyn Vail, while traveling towards Garhoud bridge, the tire of van they were riding exploded causing the it to hit the mid-barrier of the street, bumped another car and eventually turned turtle. The victims were brought to the Al-Rashid Hospital.

The Filipino casualties were Ethel Ellovido Nombrago of Malaybalay, Bukidnon, Cecilia Samson of Tondo, Manila, and Michelle Rabago of Bacoor, Cavite. Another OFW, Richard Ingente of Balintawak, Quezon City is still in critical condition.

OWWA Dubai is currently coordinating with the Retazza Coffee Shop for the immediate repatriation of the three (3) OFWs’ remains.

Meanwhile, the OWWA Regional Welfare Offices NCR, IV-A, and X are currently coordinating with the families and facilitating the insurance entitlement of PhP220,000.00 each for the love ones left behind by the victims.
